MAKEUP ARTISTS

Currently only licensed cosmetologists & estheticians by the Board can apply make-up for compensation, unless the work is in the entertainment industry.

All Freelance makeup artists who are not estheticians or cosmetologists doing weddings and other makeup jobs for compensation are doing it illegally. OPTIONAL certification will change this for those who choose to get certified.

Entertainment Industry Artists, no matter how qualified and talented, cannot work in Salon, Spas, or in weddings unless they are licensed cosmetologists or estheticians. OPTIONAL Certification will allow new job opportunities for those who choose to get certified.

Retail artists, again, no matter how qualified and talented cannot work in Salon, Spas, or in weddings unless they are licensed cosmetologists or estheticians. OPTIONAL Certification if it is passed will change that for those who choose to get certified.

With Makeup Artists Certification is voluntary and is aimed at artists who are interested in expanding their employment opportunities.

OPTIONAL certification will not prohibit licensed cosmetologists or estheticians that currently practice makeup from continuing to practice. Nor will they need to become further certified.

OPTIONAL certification will not prohibit those who retail makeup privately (Mary Kay, Avon..etc) from continuing to earn a living as they have for many years.
